Product Overview

SA168 is a core power supply component in the ABB Advant Master distributed process control system. The 3BSE003389R1 is defined as a "Power Supply Unit", whose fundamental function is to convert the AC main power supply provided by the factory into a stable, pure, and low-ripple DC working voltage required by all electronic modules within the Advant Master system.

In a large-scale DCS like Advant Master used for critical industrial processes, the reliable operation of the entire control system completely depends on a high-quality and highly redundant power supply system. As a rack-level power supply provider, SA168 not only needs to offer sufficient power but also must possess safety features such as overvoltage, overcurrent, and short-circuit protection. With a weight of 26.6kg and a height of 177mm, it integrates large-capacity transformers, filters and power devices inside, capable of providing abundant and stable power to all modules within the entire AC 400 rack.

It features multiple protection mechanisms and is equipped with complete overvoltage protection, overcurrent protection and short-circuit protection circuits. When a fault occurs at the output terminal, it can quickly cut off the output or enter current-limiting mode to protect the expensive downstream control module.

Power redundancy support: In critical applications, AC 400 racks are typically equipped with two or more SA168 power units and operate in a parallel redundant mode. Even if one of the power supply units fails, the remaining units can seamlessly take over the entire load to ensure that the system's power supply is not interrupted.

System integration and diagnosis

Backplane power supply，The SA168 provides DC power to all inserted modules through the rack backplane, simplifying internal wiring.

Status indication and alarm: There are usually LED indicator lights on the power unit panel to show the status of normal power supply, Fault, etc. More importantly, these status signals will be reported in real time to the Advant Controller through the backplane bus. Operators can remotely monitor the health status of each power unit on the Advant OCS operator station to achieve predictive maintenance.
