FORT COLLINS, Colo. and PARIS, USA – Woodward (NASDAQ: WWD), a leading global supplier of energy control solutions for aerospace and industrial applications, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the Electromechanical Actuation Systems business of Safran Electronics & Defense in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The acquisition includes intellectual property, operational assets, talent and long-term customer agreements for the Horizontal Stabilizer Trim Actuation (HSTA) system for aircraft stability systems designed to support safe and efficient flight, particularly on the Airbus A350 aircraft.
HSTA is a key product in the acquisition and represents the most advanced electromechanical control technology in aviation. The acquisition will also include other electromechanical products and electronic control units, as well as a range of products for commercial airliners and business jet applications. In addition, the acquisition will enhance Woodward's technology platform for next-generation aircraft.
Chip Blankenship, Woodward Chairman and CEO, said: "The acquisition of Safran's Electromechanical Actuation business is a perfect fit with Woodward's growth and innovation value drivers. It not only increases the installed base of our existing widebody aircraft programs, but also expands our industry-proven technology platform for the next generation of single-aisle aircraft. Overall, this acquisition is highly complementary to Woodward's business. This is another example of our focus on aerospace and industrial product lines that have the greatest potential to provide excellent service to customers and create long-term value for shareholders."
"We are confident that this important business will continue to thrive under Woodward's leadership and commitment to innovation. We look forward to supporting our customers with a smooth and efficient transition. As we focus on accelerating value creation and the development of next-generation aircraft, today's announcement is another important milestone in Safran's acquisition of Collins Aerospace's Actuation and Flight Controls business."
The transaction is expected to close in mid-2025, once all customary terms and conditions to the agreement are satisfied and regulatory requirements are met.
