Product Features
Scalability: Up to 8 ABB DI820 Units in single connection. This high-density layout packs more inputs into a small module, conserving real estate in control cabinets.
Per Channel Isolation: each of the 8 channels is individually isolated. This helps to prevent cross-talk from one channel to another, which would make the input signals less reliable, because signals that are fed to one channel will not influence other channels. ABB DI820 also helps avoid cross talk and short circuits among various input sources.
Channel supervision: Channel 1 can be used as channel supervision input channels 2 - 4 and channel 8 can be used as channel supervision input for channels 5 - 7. The error inputs are activated and the warning LED lights up if the voltages connected to channel 1 or 8 are lost. This feature is crucial for detecting power failures or abnormal voltage conditions in the field input power, ensuring the integrity of the input signals.
Input Status Indicators: Each channel has state indication LEDs. The active state of each input is indicated by a light-emitting diode for operators and technicians to quickly interpret the input state. This makes debugging and monitoring easier.
Signal Filtering: the module is capable of filtering. The digital filter times can be tuned as we described earlier, while the analog filter provides noise reduction and ensures stable input signals. In industrial environments where electrical noise can be a real problem, this is critical.
Digital Signal Acquisition: The ABB DI820 captures digital signals from field devices, transmitting their status to the automation system for processing.
Installation
Mounting: The ABB DI820 is designed for quick and easy installation. It can be affixed to a standard DIN rail, which is a standardized mounting framework generally used for mounting circuit breakers and industrial control equipment inside equipment racks.
Connection:The ABB DI820 uses a standard industrial interface for connection. When connecting the module, ensure that the wiring is done correctly according to the wiring diagram.Proper cable selection and installation are important to maintain signal integrity. Make sure to use the appropriate cable type, considering factors such as voltage rating, impedance, and shielding requirements.
Grounding: Ensure proper grounding of the module. Grounding helps to protect the module from electrical surges and reduces electromagnetic interference.
Application range
Monitoring of High Voltage Field Devices: Capturing and transmitting the status of devices operating within the module's voltage range to central controllers.
Safety Systems: Implementing safety interlocks and emergency shutdown systems where reliable high-voltage digital input monitoring is crucial.
Process Automation: Integrating with other S800 I/O modules to create comprehensive automation solutions.
Troubleshooting
LED Indicators: Use the input status LEDs on each channel for quick troubleshooting.
Error Logs: Analyzing system error logs and diagnostics history to identify and troubleshoot failures.
Voltage Supervision Alerts: Keep an eye on voltage supervision warning LEDs for input voltage loss detection.
