Number of connectable I/O blocks: one module connects up to 8 discrete and analog blocks to the dual bus. The extra modules allow up to 30 I/O blocks interfacing with the same dual bus.

Control method: its operation is controlled by the B-phase discrete block in the cluster. The first circuit of this discrete block serves as an output completely for this bus switching module. Upon communication loss on the current bus, this output will signal the module to switch the bus. It can also be commanded to switch the bus through the CPU or handheld monitor.

Features

Multi-module expansion: GE IC660BSM021 can connect up to 8 discrete and analog blocks to the dual bus. If more I/O blocks need to be connected, additional bus switching modules can be added to allow up to 30 I/O blocks to be connected to the same dual bus to meet the expansion needs of systems of different sizes.

Flexible bus switching: GE IC660BSM021 may be commanded to perform bus switching through either the CPU or handheld monitor commands. In case bus communication is lost, the module will automatically switch to the backup bus or may switch buses as needed manually, the bus switch activation is accomplished in less than 20 ms, ensuring continuity and timeliness of system communication.

Dual bus connection: GE IC660BSM021 can connect input/output devices to two serial buses simultaneously to afford the system redundant communication paths to improve the reliability and fault tolerance of the system. It will automatically switch when any one bus fails to allow the system to remain in operation.
