Product overview

The Meggitt RLC16MK2 is a 16-channel relay expansion module in the VM600Mk2 rack-mounted mechanical monitoring system. In the protection and monitoring systems of large rotating machinery, when the 4-channel relays built into the processor module, such as MPC4MK2 + IOC4MK2, are insufficient to meet the on-site alarm, shutdown or status indication requirements, RLC16MK2 provides an additional 16-channel configurable relay output. There are standard versions (RLC16MK2) and safety certification versions (RLC16MK2 SIL), the latter of which is used in situations with SIL2 safety level requirements.



RLC16Mk2 modules and VM600Mk2 racks

RLC16Mk2 relay modules are used as part of a VM600Mk2 rack-based monitoring system. A RLC16Mk2 module is always used under the control of an associated MPC4Mk2 or AMC10Mk2 module and can be used in a VM600Mk2 system rack (ABE04x) or slimline rack (ABE056)

The RLC16Mk2 are single-width modules thatoccupies a single VM600mk2 rack slot (moduleposition). The RLC16Mk2 is installed in the rear of therack and connects directly to the rack's backplaneusing two connectors.

Note: The RLC16Mk2 modules are compatible with al!VM600Mk2 racks (ABE04x system racks and ABE056slimline racks) and later VM600 racks.

RLC16Mk2 module functionality The RLC16Mk2 module includes sixteen user-configurable relays (RL1 to RL16) that can be used bya VM600Mk2 system to remotely indicate systemalarm and/or status information. In general, V600Mk2 system relays can beconfigured as normally energized (NE) or normallyde-energized(NDE), and latched or not latched, asrequired by an application.

Most relays in a VM600Mk2 system are driven by control circuitry that supports a VM600Mk2 system safety-line, that is, a system-wide control signal that automatically drives all IOC4Mk2 and RLC16Mk2 relays, and IOC4Mk2 analog outputs to a safe state should a problem be detected. In this way, IOC4Mk2 and RLC16Mk2 relays configured as normally energized (NE) can always be de-energized in the event of a problem with one of the components of the relay coil control signal.

Note: This helps support the “de-energize to trip principle” required in safety-related applications.



Installation Guide

Power-off operation: Although hot plugging is supported, it is recommended to cut off the power supply of the rack during the initial installation.

Module positioning: Align the RLC16MK2 module with the rails of the rack (ABE04x or ABE056).

Note: If installed in a ABE04x rack, this module is usually placed in any empty slot next to the processor MPC4MK2.

Fixed module: Push the module forward until you hear a "click" sound, and make sure the lock at the bottom of the module is securely fastened. Check whether the module is flat and free of looseness.

Wiring (J1-J3) : J1: Contact output of RL1-RL6. Contact output of J2: RL7-RL11. Contact output of J3: RL12-RL16. Use 0.14-1.5mm² wires, with a stripping length of approximately 6-7mm. Tighten the terminal screws with a torque of 0.2-0.25Nm.

Power-on test: Restore the power supply. Observe the indicator lights on the module panel. The POWER light should remain on constantly and the FAULT light should be off. Force the output through the VibroSight software to test whether the relay contacts are normally on and off.



Different versions of the RLC16Mk2 module

The RLC16Mk2 relay module is available in different versions, as follows:

RLC16Mk2 – this is the standard version of the module, suitable for most applications.

RLC16Mk2 SIL – this is the SIL safety version of the module, suitable for critical applications demanding the highest level of protection.

The RLC16Mk2 (standard) is the original version of the module and supports all features and functions.

The RLC16Mk2 SIL is a version of the module optimised for use in safety-related applications (functional-safety contexts). Accordingly, it has been esigned in accordance with the IEC 61508 functional safety” standard and is certified as SIL 2

capable by design. In general, the RLC16Mk2 SIL module supports the ame functionality s as the RLC16Mk2 (standard)

module but SIL versions of modules are visually istinct and feature some important differences in rder to meet the strict requirements of SIL safety systems.

For example, a RLC16Mk2 SIL module’s userconfigurable relays must be configured as normally nergized (NE) and the common circuit-fault relay (FAULT) must also be used in order to help meet safety system requirements. The RLC16Mk2 SIL also runs diagnostics (BIST).

In addition, some versions of VM600Mk2 modules are also available with a conformal coating in order to provide additional environmental protection.
