Case Experience
On a large oil and gas production platform located in the North Sea, safety is the top priority. The gas compressor on the platform is a core equipment, but its operation involves risks of high pressure and flammable/explosive gases.
A set of independent safety instrumented system consisting of IS220YAICS1A modules was deployed here to continuously monitor multiple critical parameters of the compressor, such as bearing temperature, lubricating oil pressure, and outlet pressure. The Mark VIeS controller completed the logical judgment within a few milliseconds and confirmed the critical situation. It immediately issued an instruction to cut off the power supply of the compressor through the safety output module and start the emergency depressurization procedure. Before the catastrophic accident occurred, the system successfully brought the equipment to a safe state, protecting the assets worth billions of dollars and the lives of all the staff on the platform. As the "eye" of this safety defense line, IS220YAICS1A played an indispensable role.
