Product Overview

The IS230TDBTH2A is a high-performance discrete input/output terminal board developed and manufactured by GE. As a core component of the Mark VIe Distributed Control System (DCS), it is widely used in the control of heavy-duty gas turbines and steam turbines in industries such as power and petrochemical.

The IS230TDBTH2A adopts a triple module redundancy (TMR) architecture, which typically needs to be used in conjunction with three PDIO I/O packages, each connected to three different controllers: R, S, and T, to ensure the system can still operate stably in the event of a single point of failure. This is crucial for critical functions such as emergency shutdown protection

Case Experience

1. Project Background: A certain thermal power plant has a set of 9E gas turbine units that have been in operation for many years. With the aging of the equipment, the original Mark V control system gradually exposed problems such as hardware discontinuation, difficulty in purchasing spare parts, and poor scalability caused by the closed system. In response to the demands of modern industry for open communication interfaces and fieldbus networks, the power plant has decided to upgrade the core control system and introduce the Mark VIe distributed control system based on the open architecture.

2. Solution and Hardware Deployment: In this upgrade and transformation, the engineering team adopted a modular and distributed I/O architecture. Among them, IS230TDBTH2A, as a key analog/discrete I/O terminal board, is deployed in the local control cabinet of the gas turbine body. Signal acquisition and conditioning: The IS230TDBTH2A is responsible for directly connecting various sensors at the gas turbine site, including thermocouples for monitoring bearing temperatures, 4-20mA transmitters for monitoring lubricating oil pressure, and sensors for monitoring vibration conditions. It scales and modifies these original physical signals, converting them into standard digital signals that the control system can recognize. Actuator control: In addition to signal input, the IS230TDBTH2A also undertakes the driving tasks of some actuators, such as receiving instructions from the controller and outputting signals to adjust the opening degree of the servo valve, thereby precisely controlling the fuel flow or the action of the compressor stalling valve.

3. Implementation Effect and Value: By introducing the new generation of I/O modules including IS230TDBTH2A, this power plant has achieved the integration of EIC, the three electrical systems: breaking the hardware barriers between traditional PLCS and DCS, and using a unified hardware platform and operating system, it has realized the integration of electricity
